Aging isn’t all rainbows and butterflies though. The human body is more prone to having trouble as you age, which means that certain surgeries become more common.

You have cartilage in your knees that cushion your joints and help you move without pain. Over time, that cartilage wears down, causing pain even when moving short distances. The risk of needing surgery gets higher as you age.

Back Surgery

As many as 8 out of 10 people experience back pain at some point in their lives. Sometimes the reason for the pain is known, but other times there is no apparent cause. The older you get, the more likely you are to experience back pain. 

Because back pain can be so debilitating, people commonly turn to painkillers and surgery to try to fix the problem. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t. Back surgery runs the risk of damaging your nerves even more. Consider what your recovery will be like if you pursue back surgery.

It’s normal for your body to be more prone to injury and heal slower than it used to as you age. That’s why you’re more likely to need surgery when you’re older.
