How to Protect Yourself This Winter if You’re Immunocompromised

This winter, perhaps more than any other, everyone is trying to stay safe and healthy. This is only more serious for the immunocompromised who may struggle to recover from disease more than others. There are few things that are more depressing than being sick during the winter, stuck at home during the gloomy and cold days. So, to help you stay healthy, here are three tips to help you protect yourself from disease this winter for the immunocompromised. 

Get Your Vaccinations

This is the first step to ensuring that you are protected, particularly if you are immunocompromised. You should be up to date on all vaccinations when the winter rolls around to ensure that your antibodies are in check and ready to fight off bacteria and viruses. The immunocompromised are eligible for COVID booster shots now, which you should get as soon as possible. You should also get your flu shot this season, as it will help protect you from contracting the flu and ending up in the hospital, where you may be exposed to other diseases. Get vaccinated this winter. 

Take Precautions

Unfortunately for the immunocompromised, a keyway that you can keep yourself healthy is to take precautions against disease. While it is an extra burden to take on to ensure that you stay healthy, following precautions can be easy and not too disruptive to day-to-day life. For instance, you should almost certainly be avoiding crowded spaces and keeping your distance from others in closed space. Distancing signs set clear expectations to protect employees and customers. Follow all posted signage about distancing and wear a mask when you can in indoors space to keep yourself safe and healthy all winter long. 

Bundle Up and Stay Warm

While the winter brings beautiful snow, it also brings bitter cold that can make it easier to catch and spread disease. Make sure that when you are out and about in the cold that you are bundling up to keep yourself warm. When you stay warm, you keep your body in a good position to fight off potential invaders and stay healthy. Hats, gloves, scarves, and jackets are a must in order to stay warm and healthy this winter.
