The pandemic has been at the forefront of everyone’s mind for the better part of 2020. You may feel that you must try extra hard to avoid becoming infected with COVID-19. Perhaps you or a close family member have a poor health condition, for example. Here are the top places you should avoid preventing infection.
Restaurants
While some businesses rely on minimal interaction, restaurants involve people being in close proximity. Restaurants can potentially spread the virus because they are one of the few locations where people can take off their mask once they arrive at their seat. While restaurant workers try hard to keep things sanitary, their work is not always perfect.
If you are wanting to reduce your risk, avoid going to restaurants in-person. You can get delivery straight to your door, but there are more opportunities now. Most businesses provide a takeout option so you can get their delicious food with minimal COVID-19 risk.
Confined Spaces
You should try and avoid confined spaces where there is a high likelihood the virus will spread. There are unique rules of social distancing etiquette you should follow in confined spaces such as elevators. While masks are highly recommended or outright mandated in certain buildings, in confined spaces wearing masks is essential in preventing spread.
Most elevators will have signs indicating a person limit. Stay as close to the wall as possible while avoiding touching handles or buttons. Wear your mask, and make as little conversation as possible. These strict rules are essential for a tighter situation.
Public Transportation
The way people travel is also likely to change, especially in big cities. Traditionally subways, buses, and trains have helped move people throughout town. Now, these places are rampant COVID-19 spreaders. Because of the transient nature of public transport, employees rarely have time to clean their seats, handles, and anything else travelers may touch.
If you do plan on using public transportation, make sure you bring your mask and social distance. If you are particularly worried about the virus, you should probably avoid them altogether.
This virus is serious business. Trying to avoid infection to protect yourself and your family is respectable. But knowing where you should and should not go if you want to minimize your chances with the disease is important. It will keep you safe in the long run.
