How to Protect Yourself and Others from Illness This Winter

The COVID-19 is drawing out through the winter, which some experts and people are particularly concerned about. Because people spend more time indoors during the colder months, the spread of disease is a lot more frequent. This seems to be true with the coronavirus, so people are looking for ways to protect themselves and others from it.

Wash Your Hands

If everyone washed their hands regularly, it would help mitigate the spread of disease. There are several guidelines to keep in mind when hand washing, specifically for younger children. You should first wet your hands, then apply soap, and then spend 20 seconds as you lather and scrub. After the time has passed, you are free to rinse off the soap and dry off.

You should wash your hands before and after meals, after you go to the bathroom, and before you visit someone who could be vulnerable. Encourage your children to wash frequently—particularly at school. This is an excellent way to keep your family safe.

Avoid Crowds

You should also avoid places where crowds may gather. You should always have the option to social distance if the virus makes you nervous. Crowds not only make it more likely you will contract the virus, but you could also accidentally pass it to someone you know without recognizing your own symptoms.

With COVID-19, transmission is more likely before you notice symptoms. Because of this, you shouldn’t go into crowded areas with little ventilation. The vulnerable should also avoid going to large events, and instead stick to digital ones. Social distancing is the best way to keep yourself secure from the virus’s spread.

Take Your Vitamins

Taking your vitamins is a less talked about, but still important, way to keep yourself protected. Studies have shown that people who take Vitamin C and Vitamin D in some form have a higher resistance to disease. Multivitamins also work. There are several reasons for this.

Vitamins (especially D) are able to strengthen immune systems. This puts your body on higher alert and can take out illness before it becomes too severe. Vitamin C is found in fruits most often, while Vitamin D is primarily found in fish, cheese, and egg yolks. Eating a well-balanced and healthy diet is a practical way you can protect your body.

There are some simple ways to fight off illness. While everyone has a general idea of how to remain healthy, getting specific can help you feel more comfortable and prepared.
