Your whole life you’ve been told that you need to have a healthy, balanced diet. What happens if you don’t? When you don’t give your body the nutrients it needs, you will begin to see issues. Making it a priority to eat healthy helps your body to function properly.
Less Energy to Get Through the Day
If you survive on foods that aren’t nutritious, then you are depriving your body of the energy it needs just to get through the day. There are lots of convenience foods that can give you a quick boost, but they don’t provide the nutrients you need to have sustained energy.
A poor diet often leads to people feeling more tired throughout the day and less motivated to do everything they need to. In fact, being tired could prevent you from preparing better meals for yourself, depriving you of energy and sending you into a vicious cycle.
Damages Your Teeth
A poor diet specifically targets your teeth. Foods that are typically deemed “less healthy” include sugars and starches. These foods actually feed the plaque on your teeth and as more plaque develops your teeth are weakened. You’re more likely to have cavities and you can even risk past fillings.
Damage to tooth fillings can lead to decay if you don’t fix them. If you continue to eat poorly, your teeth can break down and it will eventually become difficult to eat in general. You need to provide your body with foods that will strengthen your teeth.
Poor Mental Health
Your diet has many effects on your physical health, but it can impact your mental health as well. The link between diet and mental health is complex, but one theory observes the connection between bacteria in your gut and neurotransmitters. When you eat healthily, neurotransmitters are produced as they should be and they transmit positive signals to your brain. When there is inflammation, the neurotransmitters are not properly produced and this sends negative signals. Inflammation is typically brought on by unhealthy foods. If you eat poorly, you can exacerbate mental illness or lead to a decrease in overall mood.
What you give your body will determine what you get out of it. If you want your body to be strong and healthy, then you need to be eating a well-balanced diet that focuses on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Making changes in your diet can lead to many positive changes.
